Protests in Spain against too many tourists

Thousands of people protested in Spain, Portugal, and Italy on Sunday. They are unhappy with too many tourists visiting their cities. The group 'Southern Europe against Overtourism' organized the protests.
In Barcelona, some protesters used water pistols and smoke. They say too many tourists make housing very expensive. Many people cannot afford to live in their own neighborhoods.
The police said 600 people joined the protest in Barcelona. A study shows that housing is the biggest problem for people in Spain.
About 120 groups joined the protest. One group is against building a bigger airport in Barcelona. They say this will bring 15 million more people, mostly tourists.
The protesters say the government is not doing enough. Last year, they gave 13 ideas to the city, but none were used.
Spain had 94 million tourists in 2024. It is the second most visited country after France. Too many tourist apartments and not enough homes make prices very high.
